Dry body oil is a body oil made from light, fast-absorbing oils that sink into skin within a minute or two instead of sitting on top. It is not actually dry - it just leaves skin soft rather than slick. CCC's base blends sunflower, sweet almond, moringa and grapeseed oils.
If you have ever skipped body oil because you did not want to wait twenty minutes before getting dressed, or because the last one left marks on your favorite silk top, this is the oil for you. Here is how it works, what is inside ours, and how to wear it.
What is dry body oil?
Dry body oil is a body oil built from light carrier oils that sink into your skin within one to two minutes instead of sitting on the surface. It seals in the water already on your skin after a shower, then leaves a soft, satin finish rather than a shiny, slippery film, so you can get dressed without transfer.
The word "dry" describes the finish, not the oil itself. Heavier oils stay on top of the skin, which is why they feel slick and rub off on sheets and clothes. A dry oil uses lighter oils that absorb faster, so the shine settles into a soft glow instead of a coating.
That fast finish is the thing customers mention most. Across hundreds of customer reviews, the line that comes up again and again is some version of "it doesn't even feel like you put oil on."
Our Scented Dry Body Oil comes in scents like Cocoa Moringa, Seychelles, Queen of Hearts, Cupid's Beau, Gilded Nectar and Pink Amber Vanilla, each one made to open warm, trail softly and stay close. Prefer nothing on your skin but the oil? The Unscented Dry Body Oil uses the same fast-absorbing base with no fragrance added.
Why is it called dry oil if it's an oil?
It is called dry oil because of how your skin feels after you apply it, not because it lacks oil or water. The oil is 100% liquid in the bottle. "Dry" describes the finish: within a minute or two it sinks in, and your skin feels soft and smooth to the touch instead of wet, tacky or greasy.
The difference comes down to which oils are in the blend. Lighter oils such as sunflower and grapeseed absorb quickly, while heavier oils and petroleum-based products tend to sit on the surface. A dry oil is built mostly from the lighter group, which is why it disappears fast.
That finish is what makes dry oil easy to wear every day. You can oil up after a morning shower, wait a minute or two, and step into a silk blouse, fitted jeans or work clothes without leaving marks behind. At night, it sinks in before your skin ever touches the sheets.
Plant oils still do real work once they sink in. A 2017 review of topical plant oils in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences notes that oils applied to the skin can form a protective layer that helps skin hold on to moisture and lowers water loss, and that sunflower seed oil, which is high in linoleic acid, helped preserve the skin's outer layer and improve hydration in adult skin.
What is in CCC's dry body oil?
CCC's dry body oil is a blend of sunflower, sweet almond, grapeseed and moringa oils, infused with hibiscus petals you can see floating in the bottle. Each oil is light enough to absorb in a minute or two, and together they leave your skin soft with a glow instead of a slick. Every bottle contains sweet almond oil.
| Oil | What it brings |
|---|---|
| Sunflower oil | Rich in vitamin E and linoleic acid, with a light feel |
| Sweet almond oil | Softens and conditions |
| Moringa oil | Carries vitamins A, C and E |
| Grapeseed oil | Lightweight and fast-absorbing |
| Hibiscus petals | Infused into the oil and visible in every bottle |
A few scents use a different base. Peach is built on apricot and rosehip oils, and Caramel Kisses on marula and MCT oil. The full ingredient list for every scent lives on its product page, so you always know exactly what goes on your skin.
If gourmand scents are your thing, Vanilla Almond Soufflé Dry Oil opens bright with lemon sugar and almond, then settles into vanilla and salted caramel. And once you have a bottle you love, the Scented Dry Body Oil Refill lets you top up your glass bottle with 8 fl oz of oil at roughly 29% less per ounce. Refills are sold on our website only.
How do you use dry body oil?
Use dry body oil within three minutes of stepping out of the shower, while your skin is still damp. Press two to three pumps into each arm and leg, using upward strokes. Damp skin is the point: the oil seals in the water already sitting on your skin, then sinks in within a minute or two.
If you wait until your skin is bone-dry, there is less water left to lock in, and you will feel like you need more oil to get the same softness. Pat yourself half-dry with a towel, then go straight to the oil.
Give extra attention to the spots that dry out first: elbows, knees, shins, heels and the backs of your arms. For a soft glow on bare skin, finish with one more drop pressed into your collarbones and shoulders. A 3.4 fl oz bottle goes a long way, because a little oil on damp skin covers more ground than the same amount on dry skin.
If you layer more than one product, order matters. Smooth on Body Silk, our lightweight lotion, first while your skin is damp. Add body butter next if you use it, on your driest spots or all over. Finish with dry body oil last to seal everything in. Oil always goes last.

Does dry body oil replace lotion?
Dry body oil can replace lotion if you apply it to damp skin straight out of the shower, because it seals in the shower water already on your skin. If your skin runs very dry, use both: lotion delivers water to the skin, and dry body oil on top seals it in, so the softness lasts longer.
Think of it as two different jobs. Lotion carries water. Oil holds water in place. On a warm day, or if your skin is not especially dry, oil on damp skin is often all you need.
In winter, or on skin that turns ashy by lunchtime, Queen, layer up. Body Silk goes on first, body butter next if you want it, and your dry oil last on top. For a side-by-side look at all three, read dry body oil vs body butter vs lotion, or browse every scent in our Dry Body Oils collection.
Frequently asked questions
What is dry body oil?
Dry body oil is a body oil built from fast-absorbing carrier oils that sink into skin within a minute or two instead of sitting on top of it. Ours uses sweet almond, sunflower, grapeseed and moringa oils. It hydrates like an oil without the slick, greasy film.
Will dry body oil stain my clothes?
No. It absorbs in one to two minutes. Give it that long before you dress and there is no transfer.
Does it contain nuts?
Yes. Every CCC dry body oil contains sweet almond oil, so do not use it if you have a nut allergy.
How long does the scent last?
Six to eight hours on most skin. Exfoliate first with an African exfoliating net and the scent lasts noticeably longer, because fragrance clings to fresh skin rather than to dead cells that are about to shed.
