Why your body care isn’t working

Dead skin builds up where you can’t see it: the backs of your arms, your thighs, the middle of your back. It’s why lotion sits on top, why skin looks dull even right after a shower, and why that rough, bumpy texture never quite smooths out. A loofah can’t fix it. It holds water, holds bacteria and barely reaches past your shoulders.

The net our family has always used

The African exfoliating net — sapo in Ghana, and the bathing net every household keeps across West Africa — is a long, stretchy strip of knotted nylon mesh. Not a trend. It’s how generations have gotten properly clean. We’re two sisters from Brooklyn who grew up with this net in the bathroom, and we cut ours to full length so it reaches the whole back.

Net it. Silk it. Seal it.

  1. Net it. Wet the net, add body wash or bar soap, and scrub in small circles from the shoulders down. Stretch it taut behind you to reach your whole back.
  2. Silk it. Step out and smooth Body Silk over damp skin. In cold months, add body butter on top.
  3. Seal it. Finish with a few drops of dry oil to lock everything in.

Rinse the net, wring it and hang it to dry — it dries in minutes. Machine or hand wash weekly.

Before first use: our nets are hand-dyed, so deeper colors can release a little dye at first. Run the net under warm water — or through one wash — before it goes in the shower.

How To Use

Wet the net and add your body wash or bar soap. Scrub from neck to feet, then hold one end in each hand and pull it across your back to reach the spots a loofah can't.

Then silk it and seal it: Body Silk on damp skin, dry oil last.
